Five people have been confirmed dead following a road accident involving a matatu at the Jubat area near Londiani junction on the Kericho-Nakuru highway.
Londiani OCPD Joseph Mutungi confirmed that the accident occurred after the matatu lost control after its left rear tyre burst.
Mutungi said the driver of the matatu lost control of his vehicle, veered off the road to the right side and rolled several times before landing in a ditch full of stones.
He added that three people died on the spot while two others succumbed to their injuries at Londiani sub-county hospital where they had been rushed for treatment.
The occupants of the vehicle were heading to Kisumu for a birthday party of one of them.
Five other passengers sustained serious injuries and were treated at the Londiani sub-county hospital.
Two of them are in stable condition at the facility while the other three have since been transferred to Kericho Referral Hospital.
