CS KAGWE POINT AT DRUNKARDS DOIN JERUSALEMA CHALLENGE AS 685 MORE TEST POSITIVE FOR COVID-19

Health Ministry Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe on Sunday directed blame towards drunkards disregarding health protocols while doing the now-famous Jerusalema dance challenge.

The CS said clubs and other entertainment joints have turned to be the new hot spots for Covid-19 infections as cases have been increasing since President Kenyatta opened the bars.

“Once Jerusalema gets in, all the measures go out. Can you do Jerusalema keeping social distances? Nobody is stopping people from dancing but at least you can dance keeping social distance. I am told it is not an intimate dance,” Said CS Kagwe.

He said people aged between 20-39 now account for 54 per cent of the new infection, attributing it to increase entertainment activities among the youth.

CS Kagwe advised the youth to help curb the spread of the virus as they are contributing to most of the new infections, and transferring the disease to the senior citizens who are succumbing more.

“Cumulatively, those aged between 20-39 account for 54% of all the positive cases, and the majority of our deaths are amongst those above 58,” he added.

Kagwe accused the youth of flirting with the disease and warned them against posing danger to society.

He said his Ministry is worried by the increased numbers which he attributed to the violation of containment protocols.

The CS pleaded with bar owners to enforce social distancing and the other containment measures. He also criticised political rallies for disregarding social distancing.

Meanwhile, Kenya on Sunday recorded 685 new positive cases from 4912 tests bringing total cases to 44,881. Currently, the Ministry said there are 28 cases in the ICU and close to 1000 hospital admissions. Recoveries stood at 31, 857 after 105 new ones while the death toll stands increased by seven to 832
