Kaspul MP Ong’ondo Shot Dead

Charles Ong’ondo Were was the Member of Parliament for Kasipul Constituency in Homa Bay County, Kenya. He was first elected in 2017 and re-elected in 2022 under the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party . During his tenure, he served as the vice-chair of the National Cohesion Committee and was a member of the Committee on Blue Economy and Irrigation.

On April 30, 2025, MP Ong’ondo Were was tragically shot dead in Nairobi. The incident occurred near the City Mortuary roundabout, and the motive remains unclear as investigations are ongoing . Prior to his death, he had raised concerns about growing political violence in his constituency, alleging that some youths causing unrest were outsiders affiliated with certain politicians.

Following his passing, tributes poured in from various leaders and residents, highlighting his contributions to the development of Kasipul and his efforts in promoting peace and unity within the constituency.​
