Mutua Lied On TV About Water Supply In Machakos

Machakos County Assembly Speaker Florence Mwangangi has refuted Governor Alfred Mutua’s recent comments on the water supply situation in Machakos County.

Speaking Wednesday when she appeared on Citizen TV’s morning show Day Break, Mwangangi termed the water situation in the county as dire, contrary to Mutua’s statements on the show earlier this month that the situation was better than all the other counties combined.

“The fact of the matter is that we don’t have water in Machakos County; it’s a dire situation on the ground, you go to places like Kyua and you find that the families wake up as early as 9 am to go and look for water many kilometres away,” stated Mwangangi.

“If you look around you’ll find there is a river, when it rains the water just flows down to the ocean. One week after, the families start going to look for that water kilometres away.”

While appearing on the Day Break show on November 4, Mutua told citizen TV that he has established boreholes, dams and wells in the county, and although the pandemic had slowed down his plans, he was leading the pack with more to show than the other 46 governors combined.

“Because of leadership, I gave a promise and I kept it. I told my people that I would put tap water all over,” he stated, adding: “I have been able to dig almost 700 boreholes, more than all the 47 governors combined. I have dug dams, I have dug wells, I have laid over 500 kilometers of water.”

“It is the high time that we walked the talk and have a little talk and lots of action,” said Mwangangi.
