Nyerere’s Statue To Be Built In Addis Ababa

Minister of Culture, Arts and Sports Ambassador Dr. Pindi Chana has today presented the Estimates of Income and Expenditure of the Ministry for the Year 2023/24 in the Parliament of Dodoma where one of the things he said in his speech is that the Government is continuing preparations for the construction of the statue of Mwl. Nyerere Headquarters of the African Union Ethiopia where the project will cost USD 205,942 (Tsh. 487 million+).

“The government through the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Sports is continuing with the coordination of preparations for the construction of the Statue of Mwl. Nyerere is expected to be erected in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia at the African Union Headquarters where until April, 2023 the stage reached is to start the construction of the actual statue after the contractor, EPITOME ARCHITECTS LIMITED of Tanzania, completes the construction of the second prototype and is approved by the Committee National in accordance with the Law honoring the Founders of the Nation No. 18 of 2004 and its Regulations of 2005.

“The origin of the project is the recommendations of the late Robert Mugabe in 2015 aimed at recognizing the distinguished contribution of the Father of the Nation, Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere, in the liberation of the African continent, especially the countries in the south of the continent”

“The project worth US$ 205,942 is being built under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Sports, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, SADC Secretariat, Project Managers in collaboration with the Mwl Family. Nyerere and according to the existing contract, it is expected to be completed in December, 2023”
