‘ULISKIA WAPI’ MP LOSES PARLIAMENTARY SEAT

Selemani bungara of Uliskia wapi loses parliamentary seat

Selemani Bungara, Tanzanian member of parliament for Kilwa south is famously known for the phrase ‘uliskia wapi’. He has unfortunately lost the parliamentary seat to in the just concluded Tanzania’s general elections.

Bungara was vying on an Alliance for Change and Transparency (ACT) party. He has lost to Ali Kasinge of Chama cha Mapinduzi(CCM)

Bungara, who is also a former district commissioner for Wanging’ombe in Njombe region garnered 22,521 against Bungara’s 10,096 votes.

He was vying for the parliamentary seat for the third time. He was first elected to represent Kilwa south constituency in 2005.

Bungara became a social media sensation after he made some remarks during a press conference mentioning “Uliskia wapi” in a very funny way.

Kenyans took the phrase and popularized it as “Ooliski wapi”, and it was even printed in merchandise. Meme lords were also not left behind in using the phrase in a comical way.

During the press conference where he mentioned the “Uliskia wapi” phrase, he was answering to allegations that he had joined Tanzania’s president Chama cha Mapinduzi(CCM) party.

“We ulisikia wapi!? We ulisikia wapi!? Mheshimiwa ulisikia wapi!? Niliingia katika Chama Cha ACT nataka muelewe hivo,” Bungara said then animatedly.

During the elections on Wednesday, Kenyans were all over wishing the member of parliament luck but unfortunately he did not win.

Bungara will forever be remembered, especially in Kenya for his “Uliskia wapi” phrase.
