The closing ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics is underway in Japan,
bringing the Covid-delayed Games to a close with a record medal haul for the hosts but soaring infections in the country.
A volley of fireworks got proceedings underway in Tokyo, where athletes will be
celebrated as guests of honor but in front of empty stands with crowds still banned due to Covid restrictions.
The flame will then be extinguished before a handover ceremony to France, which will be the host of the 2024 Games.
The $15billion Games has been hugely divisive within Japan,
with many cheering on the country’s athletes but others protesting the event which took place amid a pandemic
