After winning silver in the women’s shot put event at the Tokyo Olympics,

American athlete Raven Saunders made this gesture on the medal podium: raising her arms and crossing them into an X shape.

”It’s the intersection of where all people who are oppressed meet,” said the 25-year-old, who is black, gay, and has spoken about her struggles with depression.

“I’m part of a lot of communities,” added the athlete, who twerked in celebration after her final shot put throw.

However, demonstrations are banned on the Olympic medal stand, and it’s unclear if she will face any penalties.
