Number Of Kenyans Getting Covid-19 Vaccine Is Below Set Target

Transporting vaccines from regional depots to areas in need remains Kenya’s biggest challenge. Asking Kenyans to come out and get the vaccines is also another challenge. The country is still rushing to achieve its target of 5.8 million people vaccinated by October 20th.

Some counties like Mombasa are yet to receive their share of the Pfizer vaccines owing to logistical issues.

“We want the ministry to realign existing resource and assist the county governments. Senator Ledama Ole Kina said.

Between September 25th and September 30th, the country issued an average of 13,170 to 49,846 doses per day.

That is significantly lower than the ministry of health’s target of 100,000. This statistics is  if they are to meet the goal of having 5.8 million people vaccinated by October 20th.

According to the committee, over 100 billion shillings was allocated to the Ministry of Health under the division of revenue bill.

The Ministry of Health is finalizing its plans to begin vaccination using the Pfizer vaccine from next week, following the arrival of special syringes required for dispensing of the jab termed as being delicate.
