Three Widdows Killed On Suspicion Of Witchcraft Buried In KISII

Three of the four widows who were lynched by a mob in Marani, Kisii County last month on allegations of engaging in witchcraft were buried Saturday.

Sabina Sindege, 85, Agnes Moraa,57, and Jemimah Mironga, 62, were laid to rest after a joint service in Nyagonyo village.

In the sombre ceremony, the family and human rights groups attending the funeral called for intensive investigations into the matter and delivery of justice.

“Hii kitu inaendelea hapa Kisii; mama akizeeka huyo ni mchawi. Tafadhali ningeomba serikali isaidie hawa wamama,” said Janet Victor, a family member to one of the deceased.

Speaking at the ceremony, Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi condemned the lynching of the four, terming it as unfortunate.

“We have come here to condole with this family and to condemn this very unfortunate incident. As a lawyer I will tell you nobody has a right to kill anybody,” he said.

On his part, Marani Deputy County Commissioner Julius Rono assured mourners that the government will not relent until justice is served.

“Sisi kama serikali, hatutanyamaza mpaka hawa woote wamekamatea washtakiee na sheria ishike mkondo wake,” said Rono.

So far, six suspects are in police custody as police search for more people who might have been involved in orchestrating the killing.

A committee has since been set up to look into similar cases in Kisii County to help prevent a similar incident.
