Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has been an outspoken critic of President William Ruto’s administration, frequently addressing various national issues. In February 2025, Sifuna challenged President Ruto’s criticism of early 2027 election campaigns, highlighting that Ruto had engaged in prolonged campaigning during his tenure as Deputy President. He also questioned Ruto’s associations, particularly with individuals lacking formal education, suggesting that such relationships might undermine the intellectual caliber of leadership.
Additionally, Sifuna has criticized Ruto’s allies, including Tiaty MP William Kamket and Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, labeling them as potential liabilities to Ruto’s political future. He expressed concerns over the government’s handling of public trust, citing unfulfilled promises and rising living costs as factors contributing to diminishing public support. Furthermore, Sifuna has demanded accountability for cases of abductions under Ruto’s watch, urging the president and Interior CS Kithure Kindiki to explain the whereabouts of missing Kenyans.
