Official data from England has shown that Covid vaccines are safe in pregnancy,
the UK’s Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has said.
Reinforcing international evidence, the agency found similar rates of stillbirths and preterm
births for vaccinated and unvaccinated mothers.
“If you haven’t already been vaccinated, this new information should add to the reassuringsafety data,” said Dr Mary Ramsay, the head of immunisation at UKHSA.
“Every pregnant woman who has not yet been vaccinated should feel confident to go and get the jab.”
Studies suggest about one in five women admitted to hospital with the virus have theirbabies delivered early –
and that some of these babies need special intensive care. There is also evidence that the risks of stillbirths may be higher if a woman has Covid in pregnancy.
