Martha Karua led with 35.3% while Kirinyaga governor Anne Waiguru was second with 18.7%

According to polls released by Mizani Africa, Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua led with 35.3% while Kirinyaga governor Anne Waiguru was second with 18.7%

Others in the list included Murang’a woman rep Sabina Wanjiru Chege who scored 15.6% and Nakuru senator Susan Kihika (7.9%)

In Murang’a, former Kigumo MP Jamleck Kamau was rated as the best gubernatorial candidate after scoring 50.5%

Narc-Kenya party leader Martha Karua has been named the most influential female politician in the Mount Kenya region, followed by her competitor in the 2017 General Election, Ann Mumbi Waiguru.

According to polls released by Mizani Africa, Karua leads with 35.3%, followed by Waiguru who gathered 18.7%.

This came after Karua, nicknamed the iron lady, was announced as the Mount Kenya Unity Forum’s spokesperson, which comprises over seven political parties.

The forum seeks to unite the vote-rich region and chat the way ahead of the 2022 elections.

Others in the list included Murang’a woman rep Sabina Wanjiru Chege who scored 15.6% and Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika (7.9%).

Speaking on Thursday, September 23, in Nairobi, John Benson, operation manager Mizani Africa said that the poll was conducted in four counties, namely, Murang’a, Tharaka Nithi, Laikipia, and Embu.

He said that the poll was dubbed, “If the election were to be held today, who would you vote for?

“We conducted the poll to identify the list of politicians who are popular in their counties and how their electorates rank them. We will continue rating them across the country,” he said.

Murang’a

In Murang’a, former Kigumo MP Jamleck Kamau was rated as the best candidate after scoring 50.5%. On the other hand, the UDA point man in the county Irungu Kang’ata scored 18.9%.

“In Muranga county, Jamleck Kamau would beat senator Kangata hands down if elections were to be held today,” part of the opinion poll reads.

Laikipia

In Laikipia county, governor Nderitu Mureithi would be voted again if the election was held today.

He was rated with 43.2%, followed by the former governor Joshua Irungu who emerged second with 19.1%.

Embu

In Embu county, former senator Lenny Kivuti was voted with 40.9 % as the best candidate to succeed governor Martin Wambora while nominated MP Cecile Mbarire scored 32.9%.

For the senator’s position in Embu county, Peter Njeru Ndwiga scored 35.2%, followed by little known David Kariuki Njeru.

Tharaka Nithi

In Tharaka Nithi, governor Muthomi Njuki scored dismally, posting 26% against his competitor Erastus Njoka who scored 44.5%.

For the position of senator in Tharaka Nithi, Samuel Mbae Ragwa scored 43.1% against Kithure Kindiki, who scored 33.5%.
