MATIANG’I: No One Will Given 60M Reward For arrest Of Kamiti Prison Escapees

The government remains non-committal on whether it will give out the Ksh.60 million bounty it promised for information that would lead to the arrest of three terror convicts who had escaped from Kamiti Maximum Prison.

Reports indicated that the three jailbirds; Musharaf Abdalla, Mohamed Ali Abikar and Joseph Juma Odhiambo, were arrested in a bush within Kitui County following a tip-off from members of the public.

Addressing the media at Kamiti prison where the three criminals were returned after their recapture, Interior CS Fred Matiang’i brushed off a question by Citizen TV journalist Hassan Mugambi about the Ksh.60 million reward.

The CS was asked: “For the Kenyans who offered the information, will they get the reward?”

In response, the Interior CS said: “No…no…no, we are not going there at the moment. Let us not be speculative about this. We are going to work on this meticulously as my colleagues have said.”

He digressed further and went ahead to address the measures the government is set to take to deter such an incident in future.

“The reason why we are here with ICT CS Joe Mucheru is that we have looked at the entire ICT system in this place and a partnership between us and the ICT Ministry will immediately reconfigure this because there are certain lapses,” he said.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations on Monday announced a manhunt for the three terror suspects stating: “PRISON BREAK! A reward of Sh60 Million will be offered to anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the following three terror suspects, who escaped from Kamiti Maximum Security Prison today at 1am.”

The three escapees are set to face fresh charges alongside nine officers suspected to have aided the jailbreak.
