President William Ruto Has Recently Engaged In Several Activities In Mombasa.

Tour of MS Norwegian Dawn

On February 23, 2025, President Ruto visited the Port of Mombasa to tour the luxury cruise liner MS Norwegian Dawn. The ship had arrived from Seychelles, carrying 2,220 tourists and 1,100 crew members. This marks the first cruise vessel to dock in Mombasa this year. During his visit, the President interacted with tourists and crew members, highlighting the significance of cruise tourism to the region.

Engagement with Tourists

During the tour, President Ruto engaged with tourists aboard the MS Norwegian Dawn, sharing smiles and selfies, and emphasizing the importance of tourism to Mombasa’s economy.

Economic Initiatives

In January 2025, President Ruto announced discussions with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to secure funding for extending Kenya’s Standard Gauge Railway. The extension aims to connect the Mombasa port to Uganda and South Sudan, enhancing regional trade and integration. This initiative follows the cessation of financial support from China for the project.

These activities underscore President Ruto’s commitment to promoting tourism and economic development in Mombasa.
