Multimedia University Murder Probe

On March 31, 2025, first-year student Sylvia Kemunto, who was pursuing Mass Communications and Computer Science, was reported missing after her mother failed to reach her. Investigations revealed that Kemunto was allegedly murdered by a fellow first-year student in the Electrical Engineering department. The suspect, who had been on the run, surrendered to the Sultan Hamud police station in Makueni on April 3, 2025. Police are conducting further investigations into the circumstances surrounding Kemunto’s death. ​

This incident has deeply affected the MMU community, prompting calls for enhanced safety measures and support systems for students.
