9 PEOPLE CHARGED IN CORRUCPTION CASE AGAINST MP RIGATHI GACHAGUA

Nine people among them Mathira CDF Manager William Mwangi Wahome were Tuesday arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts to face corruption charges.

They nine William Wahome Mwangi, Anne Nduta Ruo, Julianne Jahenda Makaa, Samuel Muremi Ireri, Grace Wamboi Karoiki, Lawrence Kimaru,

Irene Wamboi Ndigiri, David Reuben and MS Rapid Medical Supplies Limited are charged together with Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua, who was arraigned last week.

Appearing before Magistrate Rose Makungu the accused were charged with among counts fraudulent acquisition of public property

Magistrate Makungu noted that the charges involve a total of Ksh.27 million, adding that the amount is not minimal given the fact that it’s public money.

The accused denied the charges and were released on a cash bail of between Ksh.500,000 to Ksh.1.5 million.

The prosecution did not object their release on bail.

“I have listened to all the submissions by the accused persons.

This court is to consider the seriousness of the offence and find a balance and not to infringe the rights of the accused,” court noted.

The case will be mentioned next week on Monday.

Last week, Rigathi was arraigned before Chief Magistrate Lawrence Mugambi and charged with conspiracy to commit an offence of corruption, fraudulent acquisition of public property, money laundering, acquisition of proceeds of crime and conflict of interest.

He denied the charges and was released on a cash bail of Ksh.12 million with an alternative of Ksh.25 million bond.
