Rick Ross Talks New Album, Advice For Dababy, & Working With Drake

Two years after releasing his memoir Hurricanes, Rick Ross is back with his second book.

While promoting The Perfect Day to Boss Up: A Hustler’s Guide to Building Your Empire, which hit bookstores this week, the New York Times-bestselling author joined “The Bakari Sellers Podcast” to discuss his upcoming 11th studio album, Richer Than I Ever Been.

“I feel this is the best album I’ve ever done,” Rozay said. “I make progress every day. I feel like some of the stuff I’m saying on this album is going to separate this album from others. A lot of people gonna say, ‘Rozay shouldn’t have did that.’ I think I should. Why not? That’s what the game needs.”

The follow-up to 2019’s Port of Miami 2 is due this fall. “Before this year, you’re getting new Rozay,” he promised.

The Biggest Boss also shared his advice for hip-hop’s new generation including DaBaby in the wake of his homophobic comments at Rolling Loud Miami.

“You’re in a different position. You’ve got millions and millions of eyes on you and there are so many ways people can take one statement [you make],” he said. “It’s just really all about understanding and keeping the priorities of why you’re here. You’re here for a reason. You’re here to make incredible music for incredible people. So, let’s keep that as the focus. Let’s keep our fans first and foremost. That’s what means the most and that’s why you’re here.”

If he could only work with three people on an album, they would be Kanye West, J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League, and Drake. He most recently collaborated with Drizzy on “You Only Live Twice” off Certified Lover Boy.

“What make me and Drake a great combination when we collaborate is he could do all of the R&B, all of the harmonies, as well as turn up on some street rap shit, and Rozay cutting heads off everything else,” said the MMG mogul.

Elsewhere, he discussed his Wingstop franchise and revealed that the biggest offer he turned down was “a seven-figure cigarette offer.” “I don’t smoke cigarettes, homie,” said Rozay.
