WHAT’S UNFOLDING IN BELARUS (MINSK)

Clashes between protesters and authorities have erupted on the streets of Belarus after the disputed early results of the country’s election were announced. Long-time leader Alexander Lukashenko won 80% of the vote. This year’s election comes amid growing signs of frustration at the country’s authoritarian leadership. Many protesters chanted “get out” and other anti-government slogans, as riot police fired stun grenades, used batons, and made arrests as they dispersed the demonstrators.
