Scophine Aoko Otieno, widely known as Maverick Aoko, is a Kenyan journalist and social media commentator born on March 2, 1992, in Kisumu County. She gained prominence through her candid and often controversial opinions on social media platforms, particularly X (formerly Twitter), where she has amassed a significant following.
In August 2024, Aoko faced legal challenges when she was charged with publishing false information, cyber harassment, and fraudulent use of electronic data. The charges alleged that she posted defamatory and threatening content concerning individuals named ‘Amber Ray’ and ‘Jamal’ on her X account. She was subsequently released on a cash bail of KSh 100,000.
