Tour of MS Norwegian Dawn
On February 23, 2025, President Ruto visited the Port of Mombasa to tour the luxury cruise liner MS Norwegian Dawn. The ship had arrived from Seychelles, carrying 2,220 tourists and 1,100 crew members. This marks the first cruise vessel to dock in Mombasa this year. During his visit, the President interacted with tourists and crew members, highlighting the significance of cruise tourism to the region.

Economic Initiatives
In January 2025, President Ruto announced discussions with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to secure funding for extending Kenya’s Standard Gauge Railway. The extension aims to connect the Mombasa port to Uganda and South Sudan, enhancing regional trade and integration. This initiative follows the cessation of financial support from China for the project.
