KISUMU: Cops Probing  Death Of An 8-Day-Old After A Botched Circumcision

DCI officers in the Nyakach sub-county are probing the death of an 8-day old baby who died after a botched religious circumcision ceremony by a local Nomiya church leadership.

The baby’s parents and the church member who performed the cut have all recorded police statements.

The incident happened at Kaloo village and according to Sigoti location Chief Michael Sati, the family went ahead and buried the boy on the same day.

He claims that the parents consented to their son’s burial without informing the authorities.

Nomiya Church has circumcised its newborn baby babies for decades, and uncircumcised boys are not permitted to receive Holy Communion or hold positions of leadership.

After the boys have been baptized, trained practitioners known as Sharif circumcise them, and the boy and mother are then secluded for 30 days.
