Now It’s Maguli Day

Attorney General Judge Dr. Eliezer Feleshi has submitted a draft law for the amendment of various laws for the year 2023 in Parliament in Dodoma including the Law on Funerals of National Leaders, Chapter 419 where among other things this amendment intends to give authority to the President to announce the date of the burial of the President who died while in office that it is a day off.

“Part Five of the Bill proposes an amendment to the Law on the Funeral of National Leaders, Chapter 419, where section 6 is proposed to be deleted and rewritten with the aim of improving the conditions regarding the President’s authority to issue an announcement of the death of a National Leader or a specific Leader who is in power”

“The amendment also empowers the incumbent leader to announce the death of a retired leader, as well as this amendment aims to empower the President to announce the date of the funeral of the President who died while in office as a day off”

“The aim of these proposals is to clarify and differentiate the authorities that should announce the deaths of national leaders and specific leaders, sections 9 and 10 are proposed to be amended to give the authority to a specific leader in power to issue an announcement of the death of a specific retired leader, the aim is to recognize the current procedure where, despite the fact that the Law has named the President as the authority to announce the death of a retired Leader, such announcements have usually been made by current Leaders”
