Police Probing  Murder Of Chinese National In Athi River

Police are looking into an incident in which a Chinese national was killed and two others badly injured when thugs attacked their Athi River home in the early hours of Friday morning.

According to Machakos Criminal Investigations Officer (CCIO) Charles Mutua, the trio consisted of two men and one woman.

Jia Yuan, whose age was not immediately determined, died from a severe cut from the lips to the back of the head at Shalom Community Hospital in Athi River, where the trio had been rushed.

According to a police source, Jia Yuwei, 47, a female, had a severe cut on the head and a swelled right cheek, while Jia Zheng Ming, 37, had many deep cuts on the head.

Both were admitted to Shalom Community Hospital.

Mutua said that the incident happened between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m. in Greyland Estate.

Mutua spoke to reporters at the scene on Friday evening, accompanied by Athi River deputy county commissioner Charles Wambugu and local sub county police commander Anderson Njagi.

He went on to say, “In the warehouse, there were three Chinese nationals who lived there.” The thugs gained entry by shattering glassware. There was a scuffle upon entry, which resulted in significant injuries to three Chinese nationals. When the police were alerted, they rushed to the scene and discovered that the thugs had already fled, but the injured Chinese were still present.”

Mutua said no suspect had been arrested in connection to the incident by press time.

He said that police rushed the three to Shalom Community Hospital, but one died as a result of his injuries, while the other two were admitted in stable condition.

Mutua said investigations had been launched and special teams of homicide and cybercrime unit units were on the ground.
