YPresident William Ruto recently visited Migori County, where he was targeted by a protester who threw a shoe at him during a public rally. The incident occurred on Sunday, May 4, 2025, as the President addressed the crowd about the nation’s high cost of living. He managed to deflect the flying shoe with his arm and was unharmed. Following the incident, Interior Minister Kipchumba Murkomen confirmed that three individuals were arrested in connection with the protest.
Earlier visits to Migori have seen President Ruto engage with local leaders and communities. In October 2023, he attended a church service at Uriri Technical Training Institute alongside Governor Ochilo Ayacko, marking the first time the ODM governor was present at an event with the President in his county. During that visit, President Ruto also launched several development projects, including the commissioning of Uriri Hospital and the construction of affordable housing in Kuria West Constituency.
In August 2024, during a four-day tour of the Nyanza region, President Ruto visited Migori County to launch the Kegonga water project in Kuria East Sub County and inspect the Lower Kuja Irrigation Project. He also committed Ksh.1.5 billion to revive the Lower Kuja Irrigation Scheme and allocated Ksh.1.6 billion for Last Mile electricity connectivity in the region.
These visits reflect President Ruto’s ongoing engagement with communities in Migori County, focusing on development initiatives and addressing local concerns.
